Is The Five Guys In Singapore The Same As The U.S.?
26th January 2020
We are pretty lucky in Singapore to draw most of the ‘big name’ chains from around the globe. We never really have to go without for very long, we’ve even had In-N-Out pop ups! So when Five Guys announced they were opening in Plaza Singapura, burger fans were excited.
Five Guys is known for its customization and has up to 15 toppings for you to add! This is amazing flexibility and means you can get exactly what you want, although the choice can be overwhelming. Originally from the U.S., Five Guys can now be found in the UK, the Middle East and Hong Kong amongst other locations. I’ve personally eaten Five Guys in New York and London!
I knew the hype would still be high, given that Five Guys Singapore only opened mid-December 2019 to 100+ people in the queue. However, when I went at 4.30pm on Chinese New Years Eve, it was SUPER quiet! I managed to walk in and order with absolutely no trouble.
Inside, you get to learn where todays potatoes are from which is quite cool! There’s also peanuts for you to snack on while you wait, not that we had to wait. I ordered a ‘Little Hamburger’ which is a single patty and select toppings - I didn’t want them all! The large portion of fries is absolutely GINORMOUS, so you can definitely share this between two.
It can be a little hard to find a table, but the turnover is quite fast and there are a LOT of staff politely asking you to move along. The price point was pretty much bang on what you’d pay in London and New York, so no surprises there.
Once we sat down, I was ready to dig in! I was a little disappointed with my dry bun, but other than that it was delicious. I nailed my combo, of pickles, jalapeños, tomato, lettuce, relish, and steak sauce! The patties are amazingly juicy, which pair perfectly with the hand cut fries.
I guess I always find it a bit strange eating a burger in a restaurant, especially in a diner style place like Five Guys. I’d much rather be making a mess in my own home! The fact that you can’t hang around too, means you need to rush in, eat, and leave.
That said, the taste was exactly the same as New York and London. It is really identical. So if you truly are craving a decent burger or haven’t had a chance to try Five Guys, go at a random, non-peak time to be in with the best chance of minimal wait!
Five Guys, #01-32 Plaza Singapura, open 11am - 10pm 7 days a week.
