My Ultimate Guide: Canggu Restaurants, Beach Clubs & Bars in Bali

7th OCTOBER 2024

I have been to Bali over 30 times as I write this list. I even got married there! I’ve stayed all over; Seminyak, Canggu, Nusa Dua, Uluwatu, Ubud, Sideman, Amed, Pemuteran and visited most of the main towns from North to South. Canggu has boomed in popularity because of the aesthetic restaurants, gyms, great food, boutique shopping, and popular beach clubs. However, getting around is becoming increasingly difficult because of the congested traffic and small roads. If you visit, bear this in mind! Here’s my review of the places I have been and love.

RESTAURANTS - I’ve never had a bad meal in Canggu. Or in Bali. The restaurant scene is fantastic, with high quality food and creative concepts.

  • Luma, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.91, Canggu $$$: Luma is a Mediterranean inspired restaurant whose menu changes frequently, as they focus on season produce. It has a gorgeous interior, but I’d highly recommend booking. We hosted our wedding party for a welcome dinner here too, and they were fabulous at executing a set menu for events!

  • M Mason Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.39a, Canggu $$: I cannot express how much I love this place. It is a must for me whenever I’m in Canggu, and they now have another outlet in Uluwatu. You MUST order the broccoli salad, I think about it at least once a week.

  • Black Sand Brewery, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, Canggu $: An affordable and popular Western style brewery that offers decent food if you’re hankering for a burger fix, or a roast dinner!

  • Milk & Madu, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.92, Canggu $$: Probably one of the original ‘Canggu Instagram’ brunch spots, Milk & Madu offers delicious and fresh foods. One of the yummiest spots for a late breakfast in the are. They’ve since opened several other locations.

  • Red Gunpowder, Jl. Munduk Tengah No.6, Pererenan $$$: I was introduced to this place by my brother. It’s quite tucked away but has become very popular. If you’re craving an Indian curry in Bali, this is the place to go.

  • BOSSMAN, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.69, Canggu $$: My favourite burger place from Seminyak opened in Canggu. Same great burgers, same great food. They’ve gone through a bit of a brand and menu change, but it’s still delicious!

BARS/DAY CLUBS - No trip to Bali is complete without either a bed at a day club or a visit to one of the below for sundowners!

  • Finns, Jl. Pantai Berawa, Canggu: A great spot to hang out for the entire day, as you can book day beds online. I personally much prefer Finns VIP which is part of the same complex. I love sunsets here and all of the food is great.

  • Mari Beach Club, Jl. Batu Belig No.66, Kerobokan Kelod: Technically this is somewhat between Seminyak and Canggu, but I find it’s one of the more reasonable beach clubs in town. It’s usually quite quiet, as in, not full of big groups of young adults partying! The food is delicious as well.

  • Sol Rooftop, Jl. Pantai Pererenan Kabupaten No.169, Pererenan: A rooftop bar that offers great views and a nice spot for people watching. You can usually walk right in, but they’ve recently implemented a minimum spend for most of the areas.

  • Le Bajo Bali, Jl. Babadan No.89, Pererenan: A hidden ‘beach club’ in the middle of the rice paddies. It has a cute boutique attached too. An easy place to spend the day that’s a bit outside of town and without the usual crowd.

  • The Shady Fox, Jl. Tukad Pingai, Pererenan: Tucked away upstairs from Red Gunpower, is a small bar that has great live music and cool cocktails. I hosted a bachelorette party here, and the service was great!

  • Segno, Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.91, Canggu: A speakeasy tucked away at the back of Luma in Canggu. Great atmosphere, but they allow smoking indoors so stay away if you’re sensitive!

TRANSPORT - The best ways to get around.

  • Get a driver: If you’re going far or long, hire a driver for the day. You’ll find these everywhere, Googling, friend recommendations, sometimes even your Grab driver might give you a card.

  • GoJek: Bali would not function without GoJek. Use it for food delivery and getting around by bike. Wear a helmet! And please tip your driver.

  • Grab: Grab is similar to GoJek and I find coming from Singapore, it’s sometimes easier as I have my card already linked to the app.
