I decided to go back to Bali and spend a week on my own in Amed, my favourite little quiet corner of Bali. I’ve previously written about Amed in an older post, and how I loved it so much and the lasting impression it had on me. I chose to stay in Amed Harmony Bungalows and Villas, as it had pretty decent reviews and I wanted somewhere cheap and safe.
After another amazing scenic drive up to Amed with my driver I always use when I’m in Bali, I arrived at a very quaint little hotel. For S$35 a night, I got my own little bungalow, complete with outdoor bathroom and it included breakfast!
The pepes ikan (my favourite thing in Northern Bali) was also pretty good at the hotel! As I was on my own and I don’t like riding scooters, I was pretty much bound to the confines of the hotel or wherever I could walk to within reason. There are no street lights so it can be a little bit dangerous, but most bigger restaurants will come and pick you up if you call them ahead of time. I decided one night to walk along to Waeni’s Sunset View Bar one evening to witness the most amazing sunset I’ve ever seen. The whole island was bathed in a stunning golden light for a few minutes before the sun set over the mountains, and on the way back the sky was so fiery it looked absolutely unreal. There’s nothing like a Bali sunset.
As it was low season, (and right in the middle of when Mount Agung first started playing up) the hotel was only about 30% full so as a result I had the small pool to myself most of the time. I really loved this place. I recommended it to a friend who also came here alone, and spent about 2 weeks learning how to dive. That’s inspired me to finally learn how to do it, and I want to do the same at some point!
As usual, Amed allowed me some beautiful views on the drive back to Seminyak of a peaceful Mount Agung and stunning rice fields.
