On the way back from Koh Lipe, we decided to stop for a night in Langkawi. It was easier due to the travel times and I had always wanted to stay at this very special resort.
I first visited here when I was about 14 years old, or somewhere around that age. My parents had mutual friends in common with the owner, Narelle and we were invited to have dinner with her at the Nam restaurant. I remember being so overwhelmed with her dedication to animal rescue. I knew when I came back, we had to stay here.
So over 10 years later, I insisted on staying at Temple Tree at Bon Ton. The resort is split into two parts, Bon Ton resort and Temple Tree at Bon Ton. We decided to stay at the latter as the pool looked a bit bigger and I wanted to stay in one of the gorgeous colonial houses. The houses are so special, transported from all over Asia and rebuilt on site. I can't describe how beautiful they are, the colourful shophouses and old plantation houses make the setting so special. It's not near the beach so you rely on the pool which is admittedly a little small, to cool off.
Everything about this place is so special. The service is fantastic but some may be disappointed with the continental breakfast placed in your fridge the night before. Having to make your own toast and jam kind of distracts you from the whole experience. We ate next door at the restaurant a few times and it was just as delicious as I remember.
Part of the proceeds go towards supporting the Langkawi lassie foundation, which is the onsite animal shelter. Primarily catered towards the rescue and rehabilitation of cats, cats roam FREE around the entire grounds. There are less of them at Temple Tree, and more of them at Bon Ton. TripAdvisor is full of scathing reviews which as a cat lover, upset me greatly. It's wonderful what they are doing here, and everyone should know cats are some of the most hygienic creatures on this planet. Honestly, this place is so very special and everyone should stay here at least once in their life! I found it incredibly cute that they'd beg around you during your dinner, but clearly not everyone appreciates this!
There's no other place like this that Iβve seen in Asia so far. we will definitely be back for another special visit!
